Management of congenital and acquired hearing loss in children and adults

What is the Condition about:

Congenital hearing loss is a hearing impairment that is present at birth while acquired hearing loss occurs due to several factors such as aging, exposure to loud noise, ear infections, and certain medications. Hearing loss can range from mild to profound, and it can significantly affect a person's quality of life.

How I investigate the Condition:

To diagnose hearing loss, I will perform a hearing test, also known as an audiogram. I will evaluate the type and severity of hearing loss and determine if it is conductive or sensorineural. Based on the results of the hearing test, I will recommend further tests such as imaging studies to determine the underlying cause of the hearing loss.

What treatment options are available:

Treatment options for hearing loss depend on the severity and type of hearing loss. Management options for hearing loss may include hearing aids, cochlear implants, bone-anchored hearing aids, and auditory brainstem implants. In some cases, medication or surgery may be necessary to address the underlying cause of hearing loss.
